I recently heard that there some states where bows were made illegal. Does anyone know what states these are. What is this country coming to where a stick and string are made illegal. These are sorry times indeed.

I heard that bows were illegal in New York. I am not sure if it was all bows or if it was compound bows. The guys at work were talking about it.

I found this on Department of Environmental Conservation for New York State. It doesn't seem unreasonable.

New York State
Discharge of Firearms and Bows
It is illegal to discharge a firearm or bow:

•so that the load or arrow passes over any part of a public highway,
•within 500 feet of any school, playground, or an occupied factory or church,
•within 500 feet of a dwelling, farm building or structure in occupation or use unless you own it, lease it, are an immediate member of the family, an employee, or have the owner's consent.
•You may hunt waterfowl, over water, within 500 feet of a dwelling or public structure as long as neither are within 500 feet in the direction you are shooting

If you want more check out the website at: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28182.html

Several other forums I have read have their members talking about how all bows are illegal in New York City. Not restricted or anything like that. Just strait out illegal to own. I guess I wont be moving to New York anytime soon.

Clarification please. Illegal for what? Hunting? Target shooting?

New York City may have a anti projectile law, not even a spitball.
